The proposal for the SKWAT/ARTEK competition called for adding new value to the five types of furniture that have been used in various exhibitions and displays at ARTEK and transforming them into new forms.We sympathized with Artek’s “One Chair is Enough” spirit.Rather than changing the completed shape of the Chair66, I wondered if it would be possible to redesign it in such a way that we could enjoy more changes through long use.By applying a different color underneath the paint, the different color underneath will gradually appear and change with scratches and rubbing as it is used for a long time.

SKWAT/ARTEK主催コンペティションにて選定。実際に製作され、東京青山のArtek Tokyo Storeにて展示・販売が行われた。artekのさまざまな展覧会やディスプレイに使われてきた５種類の家具たちに、新しい価値を付加し新たなカタチに転換することが求められた。artekの「One Chair is Enough」の精神や、artekが過去の自社製品を回収・リペアして再度販売する「2nd cycle」の「年月を経た美しさを維持する為に最低限の補修・クリーニングのみを施す。個々の特性を楽しむ。」という考えに共感し、Chair66の完成された形状を変えるのではなく、長く使うことでより変化を楽しめるようなリデザインはできないかと考えた。塗装の下に別色をあらかじめ塗装しておくことで、長く使い込む中でのキズやこすれ等により、徐々に下の別色が現れ、変化する。
